Tareto Africa is a leading advocacy voice for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services and education and the elimination of harmful practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriages, and gender-based violence (GBV) among pastoralist communities in Kenya.
With severe health consequences and rights violations, FGM, is a harmful rite of passage that leads to lifelong physical and psychological trauma
Early child marriages cut short girls' education and expose them to significant health risks from early pregnancies consequently leading to Education Denied and Health Jeopardized
Entrenched harmful cultural norms and violence can lead to GBV, fueled by deeply rooted cultural beliefs that perpetuates cycles of violence against women and girls and children.
Economic hardships in pastoralist communities often lead families to prioritize livestock over their daughters’ education, viewing early marriage as a financial solution.
Tareto Africa has developed a comprehensive strategy to enhance access to quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services across Kenya, with a strong focus on marginalized communities such as the Maasai. Our approach is multifaceted, addressing critical challenges that hinder the well-being of girls and women, including harmful cultural practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and early child marriages.
Our initiatives are designed to tackle these issues at their roots by engaging communities in education, advocacy, and empowerment. We work to raise awareness about the dangers of these practices, fostering a shift in cultural perceptions that encourages the abandonment of FGM, GBV, and child marriages. Our goal is to ensure that every girl has access to comprehensive, quality health services, empowering them to live free from harmful practices and enabling them to make informed decisions about their bodies and futures
